At great risk, knowing of David's guilt, Nathan shrewdly related a story to the King. The story (found in 2 Sam. 12:1-4) describes a rich man who, in spite of great wealth, took a poor neighbor's only ewe lamb to feed a guest. Upon hearing the tale, David "burned with anger" (v. 5) and pronounced the death penalty for such a heartless man. Nathan boldly pronounced "You are the man!" (v. 7), confronting him with his own sinful actions with Bathsheba and Uriah.
